Film Poster Analysis

 Film and TV Language

In this poster, the actors name is above the film name. The producers have deliberately done this to show that Harrison Ford, a well established actor, is starring in their film to gain attraction. The mise en scene such as the bright rays projecting from behind the protagonist perhaps emphasises that he is their only means of hope or survival. The high rise buildings potentially indicates that the genre is sci-fi. This could also be inferred from the potential femme-fatale in the background. The mise en scene used such as the cigarette in her hands indicates that she is evil and is potentially the villain. This could be inferred from her stern expression which is almost robotic.

I think that this film is a parody of the first scary movie film. This could be seen through the comedic costumes such as "i love dead people" and the double entendre "what lies beneath". Perhaps this is meant to ease the tension as the genre of the film is horror. I believe there is a phantom tormenting the group of friends and the priest is meant to be the heroic figure. I think the target audience are  16+ year olds. This is because it seems to contain some innuendos which may not be suitable for younger years.

I think this international film is about the struggles of the working class. This could be seen through the factories, smoke in the air and the polluted river in the background. The mise-en-scene of the silhouette of a man perhaps shows how the working class are stripped off  their identity and are voiceless. I think the genre is a drama which perhaps follows a man who is on a journey- potentially looking for a new job after he lost his in the city.I think this film is for an older audience.

I think this film is a thriller. This is because of the little boy staring down a hole, maybe he found something? The expression on his face seems like he is slightly disturbed and the title "i'm not scared"  sounds like the character is trying to convince themselves to not be scared by what he saw. I think the target audience are 15 year olds.

I think this film is a action/thriller. This is because of the gun which creates an enigma code. The mise-en-scene of the gun perhaps indicates that the film is about federal services chasing someone. This could be seen through the little figure of a man at the bottom of the poster. Perhaps the narrative is built around this specific man.

From the title "dead man's chest" i can infer that this film is about a treasure chest hunt. This could also be seen through the pirate on the cover. The gun also shows the enigma code.

I think this international film is about marriage. Specifically arranged marriage.  This could be inferred through the title 'bride and prejudice'  Through the expression on the woman's face, it looks as if she is enjoying herself. The love interest seems like he is laughing almost. Perhaps they come from different backgrounds. This could be seen through  the city on one side and the taj mahal on the other. I think that this started off as an enemies to lovers arc at the beginning from the different cultures and lifestyles.

I think this film could be about a female boxer who is trained by a
coach who is very experienced to win a million dollars. Hence the title "million dollar baby" perhaps the protagonist  is trying to escape her past life by winning the boxing match money.  I think the genre of this film is action.
